Autumn to Me

This post was inspired by another blogger friend, Faith P. Thanks, Faith! To read her post, click here.

What does autumn mean to you? To me, it is:

  • Cleaning our woodstove chimney
  • Short days and chilly nights
  • Getting up while it is still dark
  • Long shadows
  • Unpacking winter clothes
  • Shivering until we light the fireplace each morning
  • Watching leaves flit through the sky on their way to the ground
  • Being more careful when riding the horses because of breezes that might spook them
  • Starting to think about Thanksgiving
  • Harvesting the last of the garden
  • Pumpkin flavored everything! (pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin-flavored chips, pumpkin-flavored cream cheese, pumpkin pie, pumpkin-flavored marshmallows, pumpkin-flavored cereal, pumpkin ice cream, and even pumpkin-flavored pumpkin seeds!)
  • Eating more homemade soups and breads
  • Baking
  • Shopping for Christmas
  • Leaves crunching beneath my feet
  • Doing more blog posts and novel writing
  • The Circle C Short Story contest ;-)
  • Both my parents' birthdays
  • Looking forward to my birthday (aka. making a wish list)
  • Reading a good novel in front of the fireplace
  • Rain and wind
  • Changing my blog layout to give it an Autumn look (For those of you who read my posts in your email, check it out! I think that it looks pretty cool!)

This is all what makes autumn be autumn to me! What about for you? Do you identify with any of the things that I mentioned? Thanks for tuning in!

  1. I love sharing Autumn with you! Each of the things you mentioned are special. A good hot drink by a crackling fire in the wood stove, with crisp night or morning air just outside the door, all together talking and laughing, with maybe the smell of baking drifting by . . . it is possibly my favorite time of year and I thank God we can all share it together.

  2. Yes, I agree! But I still have to say that I think winter is my favorite season, but Fall is my second favorite! I am so blessed to have you to share it with! Thank you!

  3. You are so funny, Bethany! Reading your Dad's comment and your reply reminds me of how much the two of you are alike - no wonder :) I love autumn as well. It's hard for me to say which is my favorite between autumn and spring. Our recent autumns have been so dry that spring always seems to win as my favorite. I absolutely love the colors of autumn, especially while viewing your blog - orange, gold and more orange!!! I really relate your list, especially when it comes to Christmas shopping. My deadline is always Thanksgiving :) If my shopping is done by then, I can relax and really enjoy all that comes with preparing for our Lord's birthday celebration!

    1. Yes, we have been told that we are quite alike! :-) It definitely helps you enjoy the Christmas season if all the cards are written and shopping done! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I agree with a lot of these Bethany! Although, since we moved to town this summer we no longer have a chimney to clean or a fire place to light every morning! Lovely post. It really makes me get into the Autumnal spirit!

  5. I like Autumn, too! I especially can relate to the "spooky horse" thing. I use Autumn as my big training time of the year for all the horses. ;) It works well.

I FINALLY got around to catching up on everyone's blog posts, and I hope to reply to your email, soon! Thanks for being a good friend to me while I've been a terrible one. :P Anyways I enjoyed this post and learning what you like about Autumn. :) Thanks for posting!

    1. Yes, it does. And you have to be careful too!

It's been fun to see you popping up everywhere again and posting on your blog! You have been a great friend, even though I haven't been that good of a friend; I haven't had much time to reply to emails and such. Sorry!

I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading!

  6. Ahh! I thought I posted a comment here last night, but obviously I didn't publish it. :-/ Amyways...

How could I forget to add cleaning out the chimney and building a fire in the fireplace when I did my post?! :P
Aww, thank you for linking back to me! I'm glad my post full of senseless rambles inspired you. :)
