The Golden State

Those of you who don't live in California may think that California got its nickname "the golden state" from the Gold Rush. Others say that it is because of the Golden Gate Bridge. One lesser known reason is shown below.

Yes, this time of year as summer rolls around and the temperatures begin to climb into the 100s, the grass on the hills turn golden. Don't you dare call them brown. Golden. :) California is not made up of just a bunch of surfers. In fact, much of California looks like these pictures.

What would you take a picture of that represents your state?

  1. Oh, the pictures are beautiful!! Thanks Bethany, I never knew California looked like that! :P What would I take a pic of to represent my state (in this case, KS)? That's easy! Wheat! Like you say, golden. Not brown. ;) Or I might say a pic of the Flint Hills. :)

  4. Thank you for sharing this post, Bethany. For the people who have not been to California (like me), we are just used to what we hear, and watch on television. It truly is beautiful according to these pictures, though. I should come meet you sometime! :)
I think it is cool how the state got its "golden" name. :)

  5. Oh, and the thing I would probably take a picture of for my state (Missouri) would be field, woods, and a creek.
