8 Reasons Why Summer Isn't My Favorite Season

Why eight reasons? you may ask. I'm afraid I have no suitable answer. Just sit back and discover why I'm not your normal student who can't wait for summer.

True, I enjoy the break from my studies and the camps I'm blessed to attend. However, I'd rather that summer was winter. I'm a girl who loves the rain and cold. That being said, you can guess my first reason:
  1. Summer is hot! So very hot. Here in central California, temperatures in summer can range from in the 90s to 115 degrees! There's nowhere to escape the perpetual blistering heat. Give me freezing temperatures and a jacket instead.
  2. Being so miserably warm, there's not much I can do outside on these days. It's often far too hot to work with the horses or take a walk, and even stepping outside feels like you were hurled into an oven. One of the only outdoor activities of summer is swimming, and many times our small pool is too hot to be refreshing.
  3. In the absence of school work, other things still fill up the schedule, allowing for few days of pure relaxing to sit and read a good novel or write.
  4. Summer means that I'm far away from winter! I'm happier the closer I am to December with Christmas and my birthday. :)
  5. The days are far too long. This means that while it enables me to get more done, it's also many more hours of scorching temperatures to endure.
  6. Even though I don't have school, I usually still have to wake up early in order to tend to outdoor chores that should be done before it gets too hot. This includes watering the plants, working with the horses, and attempting to get a breath of cool air before the merciless sun rises too high in the sky.
  7. No matter how hard my family works to keep the house cool, my upstairs bedroom lacks a fan, and it gets rather uncomfortable in the afternoon.
  8. Living so far away from my friends, I still don't get to see them much more than I do during the school year, except when we go to camp together.
Now you can understand why I'm not a fan of summertime. ;) It's simply too hot to be enjoyable. Still, I can't deny the benefits of not having school, or sitting in the cool morning hours sipping a hot drink with my parents. As with every season, there are both positive and negative sides. I just tend to find more negatives than positives in summer.

Care to share your favorite and least favorite seasons with me in the comments? Does it get hot where you live? Thanks for reading!

  1. I get this! But I hate school, so I like Summer better!

    1. I know how you feel as far as the school. It's nice to have that feeling of accomplishment at the beginning of summer. :)

  2. I live in a hot climate, too. I understand the feeling of not favoring the hot, humid weather, but I also like the feeling of summer. I do enjoy wearing hoodies, which can only happen in the winter. And I do enjoy being in the cooler weather rather than the hot weather, but this year I'm kind of enjoying the heat.

I guess I like all year round, lol. My favorite time of year is Autumn, for sure. :)

    1. How hot does it get at your home? Every season is beautiful in its own way. Summer . . . no school. Autumn . . . its beginning to get crisp and pleasant. Winter . . . its cold and rainy. Spring . . . the wildflowers! I think autumn is my second favorite season after winter.

    2. I'd rather not say as I don't want to reveal what state I live in at the moment. I'm paranoid, I know. If I ever get published, it will be obvious what state I live in.

Anyway, It gets really hot and humid. It's terrible. It's already humid. You're right about all the seasons being beautiful. I like when the leaves fall, though. It's just so beautiful all the colors that are everywhere. I guess the same would go for spring, but I don't like bugs, lol.

    3. I absolutely understand and respect that. :)

My dad loves watching the leaves fall. It's a beautiful time of year!

  3. Summers aren't too bad here in southwestern Pennsylvania (especially at 2,000 feet). High 70s and low 80s are probably the most common once summer's in its full swing. I don't think it gets above maybe 92 except on rare occasions. I try to get outdoor work done after 3 when the sun isn't as strong. Winters can get dicey here, but I don't mind the cold much, more just the driving in inclement weather. Fall is my favorite season. There are only a couple weeks with really spectacular leaves, but I love the temperature and the feeling/smell of the air throughout September and October. I don't know that I really have a least-favorite season, being an optimist most hours of the day, but I would say that January and August are the most annoying, because of the weather.

    1. That sounds like a nice place I'd vacation to in order to escape the heat! Yes, fall is certainly my second favorite season. I enjoy both the colors as well as the crispness in the air. June through August are my least favorite months. Thanks for commenting, Patrick!

  4. High five, Bethany! You share my sentiments exactly! With winter being my favorite season, Autumn making a close second and spring trailing along somewhere in third place, you can guess where that leaves summer. ;)

    2. Well, I've moved around a lot, but the majority of my life has been spent in Kansas where it's known for its unpredictable weather patterns. (At least, it's a Kansas inside joke :) But it's not uncommon for temperatures to hover around 110 degrees in the summer.

    3. Sounds like KS is very similar to my area!

  5. Spring is my favorite season its not to hot but its not cold because I don't like being cold HAHA. But I do like winter because it is basketball season and fall because its volleyball season and summer because its barrel racing season :)

  6. I don't mind summers-- they have been getting ridiculously hot recently (eighty degrees makes me want to die in the heat) and while winters are cozy every so often when the snow falls slowly, there is only four hours of sunlight for three months and it gets rather depressing. I do understand where you come from in regards to being busy over the summer-- chores, CHORES. I wish we can take a break from chores like school, but alas, we cannot. >.<

    1. Wow! It sounds like you live in a very cold area! And nope, never a break from chores. *sigh* But it's okay. If that's what I have to do to live out in the country, that's fine by me! I'm glad you left a comment, Abigail! Thank you!

  7. I found your blog because of this post, (I hate summer too.) and discovered that you're a horse loving writer too!

I have a QH too, but she's 23, so I'm fading her into retirement and trying to get my 3 year old started.

    I love your blog

  8. Winter is my favorite season too, but I don’t mind summer. The main thing that I don’t like about summertime though is all of the bugs. ;)
It can definitely get hot in the summer where I live too, also we get quiet a few fires around here which is definitely not good.

By the way, I like your blog background, Bethany! The beach look is so fun! :)

    1. The bugs can be very annoying! And how did I forget to add in fires to my list? That's a big one. Thanks for the reminder. :P

I'm glad you like it! Thanks! I'm considering leaving it up for summer since it is a very summery look.

  9. I have to agree that summer is my least favorite season. Where I live it gets pretty hot during this time making it hard to get anything done! Witch I am sure some of you can agree with ;) here's praying that it wont be to bad this year! Ps Great job on this post I wish I had even half of your dedication to blogging!

    1. Hehe, thanks for your agreement! Heat certainly makes it difficult to accomplish things. ;) I'll be praying with you!

And you should have seen the beginning of my blog; posts were few and far in between. If you ever want a hand . . . you know who to ask! :) Thanks for reading and commenting!

  10. Summer is definitely my favorite season. I don't even get a break from school but I still love it. Yes it's hot (usually triple digit weather) but I love swimming and just... I love summer.

    1. Well, it's good that summer has some people in favor of it because if there was a world of people like me, summer would not exist! I (or we I guess) would ban it. hehe

Anyways, we can certainly agree to disagree! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  12. So glad I got to see you! My favorite season is spring. That in between time when it's cool and breezy enough to sit outside and read, but hot enough for summer clothes. That time of year lasts about three days where I live. Not even exaggerating!!! All the other seasons are ok. So there's not really any season that I absolutely love. Because the the season that I love, is not one of the three that we have here. ;-D
