Memories...

What better day than Memorial day to make memories! The day was spent as a family, and that makes it a great day in itself! To start off the day right, I got to sleep in until about nine! From there, I was able to write on my story a little bit and I was able to play with my sister. Then I headed outside to where my mom and dad were fixing a broken pipe to our horses' water trough. I was thrilled that I could learn how to fix a pipe and have fun at the same time! I really enjoy working outside and getting my hands dirty so this was exciting to be able to help my dad out in a project that is useful. After that was done, I pulled my sister around in a small trailer that we hook up to our large riding mower. Dusty but happy, we came inside and played a racing game on our GameCube.

By the time Mom called us for a delicious buffet lunch, I felt as though the day was hardly just beginning and I had already had so much enjoyment! While Dad cleaned up the lunch dishes, my mom, sister, and I danced with flags to worship music. Breathless, we sat down to coffee (yes, even for my sister and me!) and ice cream sandwiches. Normally we would have just had regular ice cream, but this was more of a special occasion than even Memorial Day! In our family, we have made it tradition that whenever someone in the family finished the gospels, the New Testament, the Old Testament, or the books of the Law, we get ice cream! This was a double celebration as my sister had finished the gospels and I had finished the books of the Law. (Actually, I'm almost done with Joshua now.)

After enjoying that, the entire family settled down to play Apples to Apples! Even though my mom and dad whooped my sister and me, it was very exciting. Then my dad rested while I read Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. After relaxing for a while, Dad got one of our Dutch ovens heating up and we started cooking our dinner—Chicken Caccitori!  While that cooked, my sister and I practiced shooting with our Bebe gun. I didn't do too badly . . . considering that this was only the second time that I have done any shooting, and the last time was two years ago! When my eye started to hurt from squinting through the sights, we changed activities and read our books for a while longer. By the time dinner was put on the table, we were a group of hungry, happy people. After dinner we enjoyed a little bit more ice cream, then headed for bed to dream sweet dreams.

I truly couldn't have asked for any better way to spend my day. I got in quality family time, practiced my shooting, worked on my story, and learned how to fix a broken pipe! (A highly important skill in our rural area!) I went to bed content and full of many new memories that I will treasure forever. Thank you, God, for a wonderful, safe, day!
